CULTURAL CLASS

Last December, ESO students had the opportunity to attend "A Cultural Talk" in our school thanks to the publisher Burlington books. There were two lessons given by Luke, a brilliant entertainer from the city of Liverpool . He attracted the students' attention right from the start. It turned out to be a very positive experience as they learned some relevant aspects about British culture in a fun and interesting way.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MATT

First, I wake up and get a shower. Then I make breakfast and coffee. I finish getting ready for work and then walk to Possumus, where I assist in language classes. After work, I come home and make lunch, which usually is a sandwich. I will then rest for a while before going to the gym. After the gym, I go home and eat dinner. Then I will spend the night talking to family and friends, playing guitar, reading or watching shows, and preparing things for work the next day. I then fall asleep and repeat it all in the morning.
On Saturday, I sleep a little more than usual because I have a big day ahead of me. It's laundry day. So I pick up the pile of dirty clothes and put them in the washer. I sweep the apartment and clean up a little to prepare for the next week's mess. I then go outside for a walk if it is nice weather and spend the night relaxing.

HALLOWEEN 2015

This year, Matt, our language assistant, has told us about Halloween traditions in the States.
From Primary to ESO, students learned about the Celtic origin of this festival and how it was brought over to America by immigrants.
They were also told about things people do when celebrating Halloween such as carving pumpkins, trick or treating, watching horror films or going on hayrides.
Haunted hayrides

At the end of the presentation students watched a couple of videos, In one of them you could see what happens when somebody wants to explore a haunted house. The other one showed different reactions of kids after finding out their parents have eaten all their candy.
Thanks Matt for sharing this with us.
Happy Halloween!

Introducing Matt

This school year we have a new language assistant from Philadelphia, his name is Matt. We have asked him to tell us about himself and his first impression of Vigo.
Matt Reese, American language assistant at Possumus

My name is Matt and I am from Philadelphia in the United States.I studied History in university and love learning new things. I also play the guitar and enjoy listening to music. Some things I am good at are parallel parking, making a mediocre cup of coffee, and losing the twist-tie after opening a bag of bread. I really enjoy living and working in Vigo. It is a great an unique city that has so much to offer, including scenic coasts, welcoming people, and hills that make your legs sore for days. But I love it here, and working at Possumus has been an amazing experience so far. I enjoy coming to work every day and wouldn't trade this experience for anything.

For instance, last month for St Patrick's Day we found out how the Irish celebrate not only in Ireland but also in other countries (usually UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand)

Shamrock and Irish flag
Guinness

It is a big celebration with lots of parades, green costumes and shamrocks, music and of course Guinness!

An unforgettable November morning with Ross and Tonisha

Finally Ross came to our school accompanied by his fiancé Tonisha. 4th ESO students gave them a warm welcome by singing the song "Por la boca vive el pez" by Fito y los Fitipaldis".From that moment on my students had a great connection to this lovely American couple.

Ross patiently answered all their questions; he not only explained how "Traum" was made but he also told us about his trips, favourite music, films...
Two poems by Rafael Alberti were read by 1st ESO students, they wanted to show them that they start their Galician and Spanish lessons by reading a poem.
After the reading of the poems, all Ross could say was, "I love Spanish!" It was a great moment.
From the start music was important and each class gave Ross a nice surprise when they sang three songs he really likes, especially the first two: "Deerfield lake" and " Cricket Hymn" by his brother's band " Townhouse woods". I highly recommend that everybody listens to them.
Poetry, music, languages, jokes, lots of wondeful things were shared that November morning in Possumus school.
Thanks for coming!
